Vancouver has been recognized as one of the most relaxed fashionable styles in the world. Living life in the most comfortable clothes is just our thing. Now, if you want to become comfortably fashionable, read on and learn the tricks of the trade we Vancouverites live by.
1. THE HYPEBEAST
Area: Downtown Vancouver/Richmond
Choice of Drink: Ciroc, Starbucks
Brand Preference: Nike, Adidas, Supreme, ASSC, Yeezy
If Kayne isn't wearing it, then you aren't a hypebeast. These folks define themselves as the leaders in street style. They layer, layer, and layer, until they're a walking billboard for Nike. The hypebeast is the biggest sneaker head you'll find around town. If you ask them, "Hey man, what shoes are you wearing?" they'll reply with "These are the Air Jordan 4 Eminem x Carhartt". Which by the way costs a whomping $30,000. They literally have no problem splashing down bands upon bands just to be able to flex their style. These folks will go above and beyond just to the newest Air Jordan Retro releases.
2. THE YOGA CULT
Area: Kitsilano/North Vancouver
Choice of Drink: Body Energy Club, the most complicated Starbucks drink ever
Brand Preference: Lululemon, Aritzia, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci
If you got it, why not flaunt it? The members of the yoga cult have the most wash board abs you'll find. They live and breathe in yoga gear, Lululemon is the unofficial Vancouver uniform. 9 times out of 10, they're wearing a sports bra or Dri-Fit cotton shirts underneath their work clothes. They're typically are super health conscious and will stay away from anything that has 250 calories per serving. They'll typically buy yoga pants from Lululemon, then purchase a $1,500 coat at Aritzia. Just like the hypebeast, they're willing to spend some bills to accessorize their style.
3. THE HIPSTER
Area: Gastown/Main Street
Choice of Drink: Craft beer, that local coffee shop down the street
Brand Preference: Value Village, All Saints, that local boutique in Main Street
Balling on a budget is their motto. They spend their time biking down the sea wall, reading a book, or taking photos. These people are the most down to earth people you'll ever meet, and they think more conceptually and imaginatively then the next person. Supporting local communities and fighting against 'the man' are their missions in life. You'll find them shopping for vintage/retro items and matching them up with more expensive items. They're spending pattern is not has extravagant than the hypebeasts or the yoga cult, but they do splurge here and there.
It goes to show that the lifestyle in Vancouver is expensive. If you want to look and feel good, you just have to pay the price!
